Veneto region vice president
Massimo Giorgetti defended Friday decorating his birthday cake
with Fascist and Nazi SS symbols, claiming that dictator Benito
Mussolini 'modernised Italy".
"Mussolini only went wrong with the racial laws and the
alliance with Hitler, the rest was good, he modernised Italy,"
Giorgetti, from the conservative Forza Italia party, said in an
interview with Radio24 radio.
"I won't resign and I am not ashamed of the fascio," he
said, referring to the Italian fascist symbol of a bundle of
sticks he adopted for his cake together with the SS symbol.
Giorgetti defended posting a picture of the cake on
facebook.
"Renzi did worse by exalting a dictator like Raul Castro in
Cuba," he said, "Renzi is much worse than Mussolini or this
present that I received".
