One of the two gunmen suspected
of attacking a Dallas, Texas, contest for cartoons depicting the
Muslim prophet Mohammed had posted an oath of allegiance to
Islamic fundamentalist group ISIS on social media, CNN reported
Monday.
The two were shot dead by police after they opened fire on
the Sunday event.
Also on Monday, an alleged ISIS combatant claimed on
Twitter the attack was carried out by fellow ISIS supporters,
intelligence and counter-terrorism expert Rita Katz said on the
website of her organisation SITE.
The FBI has identified one of the slain gunmen as Phoenix
resident Elton Simpson, an American citizen.
He had been under investigation for terrorism, ABC news
channel reported.
The second attacker has not yet been identified.
