(ANSA) Rome, November 27 - Francesco is the most popular
name for Italian baby boys among parents on the peninsula since
Pope Francis was elected in March 2013, the national statistics
agency Istat said Thursday.
For baby girls the most popular names in Italy are Sofia
and Giulia, Istat added, possibly underlining the enduring
popularity of screen star Sophia Loren.
Italians give as many as 30,000 names to their male
offspring and as many for girl children but the 30 most popular
names make up 48% of the total for boys and 40% of the total for
girls.
Among foreigners residing in Italy most popular names for
their children are Adam for boys and Sara for girls.
