The Italian Ambassador to Sofia, Giuseppina Zarra, met today with the new Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth of the Republic of Bulgaria, Tomislav Donchev. The meeting was also attended by the Deputy Minister of Innovation and Growth, Martin Danovski, the Head of the Cabinet, Stefan Iliev, and the President of Confindustria, Roberto Santorelli.
Ambassador Zarra congratulated Minister Donchev on the installation of the new Ordinary Cabinet and his appointment as Deputy Prime Minister, highlighting the excellent partnership between the two countries in various sectors, such as the economy, education and defence, and offered the opportunity for a useful exchange of views on the opportunities for strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of innovation, high technology and development. As the Embassy reported in a note, how to promote entrepreneurship and youth employment and how to safeguard the security of energy and data supplies were also discussed.
In this context, the Ambassador presented the event promoted by the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Bulgaria 'Bridge of Innovation: Italy-Bulgaria united for the future of startups', which will be held on 8 May 2025 at the Sofia Tech Park and will be dedicated to the new turning point that Italy and Bulgaria are undertaking by moving towards high-tech sectors. It is hoped that this meeting will be attended at a high level by both countries.
Finally, the President of Confindustria Bulgaria asked for opinions on the financing options for business automation and those for cooperation between companies and universities in the two countries. The potential for business innovation and modernisation was also discussed, as well as gas metering systems. The two sides agreed to work closely together to promote and further develop bilateral cooperation in order to create a favourable environment for both investment attraction and entrepreneurship development on both sides.
