Italian banking association ABI said
in its monthly report on Monday that the recent slowdown in
Italy's economic growth is "helping to depress demand for
loans", with loans to businesses and households down by 1% in
January compared to the same month last year.
ABI said the average interest rate banks applied to new
mortgages stayed on a downward trend last month, falling to
3.09% from 3.11% in the previous month and from 4.42% in
December 2023.
