American director and screenwriter
Alexander Payne will be the chair of the jury of the 2025 Venice
Film Festival, the Venice Biennale said on Monday.
"It's an enormous honour and joy to serve on the jury at
Venice," said Payne, who won two Best Adapted Screenplay Oscars
for his films Sideways (2004) and The Descendants (2011).
"Although I share a filmmaker's ambivalence about comparing
films against one another, I revere the Venice Film Festival's
nearly 100-year history of loudly celebrating film as an art
form.
"I couldn't be more excited".
The 64-year-old will head a jury of no more then nine
international figures that will will assign the festival's
official prizes, including the Golden Lion award for best film.
The 82nd Venice International Film Festival takes place from
August 27 to September 6, 2025.
