UDINE, February 22 - "Trump is
revealing weaknesses and inconsistencies in his strategic
approach to Ukraine for the first time since his election. His
lack of preparation and recent statements undermine the cohesion
of the anti-Russian front." This was stated by Arduino Paniccia,
president of ASCE (School of Economic Warfare and International
Competition in Venice) and professor of Strategic Studies,
during a meeting in Udine.
"In recent weeks, Trump has not only openly insulted Zelensky
but has also expressed views that weaken the unity of the
European and Western front, effectively creating a rift among
allies. While the Russian bear observes cautiously—and with some
satisfaction—it hopes for exactly this: a weakening of the
West."
The professor further emphasized that the United States,
following its experiences in Vietnam and the withdrawal from
Afghanistan, seems once again ready to abandon its allies. "To
confirm yet again, with Ukraine, that the U.S. will abandon its
allies is certainly not the best way to start a presidency that
has made supremacy and negotiation power its defining features.
While one might think Panama and Mexico can be disregarded,
Ukrainians and Europeans certainly won't be, and in fact; the EU
will likely unite even more against those, like the
inexperienced Vance, who believe they can break that cohesion."
According to Paniccia, Trump's strategy of aligning too
closely with Putin is failing. "It's not a good strategy to
favor Putin excessively," he said. "This ambiguous position
could confuse even his most loyal supporters. Most Americans
expect tough but fair negotiations without dismantling NATO or
losing Ukraine. Trump would do well," the expert suggested, "to
strengthen his negotiating team, which so far has shown plenty
of talk but less concrete ability."
