Just over a month after his last
visit on February 8th for the inauguration of the European
Capital of Culture, President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella
will return to Gorizia on March 15th, the Municipality
announced.
According to the program, on that day, the Head of State will
receive the "Santi Ilario e Taziano - Città di Gorizia" Award
along with the former President of the Republic of Slovenia,
Borut Pahor. The ceremony is scheduled for 11:00 AM at the
Auditorium of Friulian Culture.
Mattarella and Pahor met in Gorizia and Nova Gorica in
October 2021 to celebrate the joint designation of the two
cities as European Capitals of Culture 2025. They stressed the
value of the border, which had transformed from a dividing
element into a point of connection and collaboration.
The Patroni Award, which since 2007 has been represented by a
stylized artwork depicting Saint Ilario, Bishop, and Saint
Taziano, Deacon and Martyr, is granted to a person, entity,
association, or organization that does not have profit or
political purposes, and has, through their work or activity in
the civil, economic, cultural, artistic, religious, or social
fields, honored and made the name of Gorizia known and
appreciated in Italy and abroad.
