"The measure to reinstate
controls at the borders between Italy and Slovenia has been
formally adopted until 18 June. Our great challenge, won so far,
is and remains, also in view of 8 February, not to impact free
movement," said the Minister of the Interior Matteo Piantedosi,
at the end of a trilateral meeting in Nova Gorica (Slovenia)
with his Slovenian counterparts, Boštjan Poklukar, and Croatian
counterparts, Davor Božinović. At the same time, a memorandum
was signed today by the police forces of Italy, Slovenia, and
Croatia, establishing mixed patrols along Croatia's external
border to "counter irregular migrant trafficking" and "for
anti-terrorism prevention." In light of Nova Gorica-Gorizia's
appointment as European Capital of Culture 2025 and its
inauguration on February 8, Piantedosi stated during a joint
press conference that, "although the formal provision of the
control measure remains, we will ensure that there is no impact,
especially in relation to the celebration of the event."
