United State President Joe Biden
respects Pope Francis after he used the image of a white flag in
an interview with Swiss TV to call for the courage of
negotiation to end the war in Ukraine, but peace depends on
Moscow, a spokesman for the US National Security Council told
ANSA Monday.
"President Biden has great respect for Pope Francis and joins
him in prayers for peace in Ukraine that could be achieved if
Russia decides to end this unjust and unprovoked war and
withdraws its troops from the sovereign territory of Ukraine,"
said the spokesman.
"Unfortunately, we continue to see no sign that Moscow wants to
end this war and that is why we are committed to supporting Kyiv
in its defence against Russian aggression," the official
stressed.
