Lazio's Italy centre-forward Ciro
Immobile said Friday he had been attacked with his family while
taking his four-year-old son to school in Rome.
Immobile, 34, linked the alleged attack to a climate of Web hate
that has arisen since Maurizio Sarri quit as coach amid a long
poor spell for the team. He had been targeted for allegedly
supporting the Tuscan coach, said Immobile.
"Incitement to hatred is a crime and must be punished," he said.
After Sarri's farewell Wednesday, Immobile said that he was
"verbally and physically assaulted by a group of people" Friday
morning, in front of his 4-year-old son's school, while he was
accompanying the boy there with his wife.
The aggression, Immobile emphasised through his press office,
was the consequence of "incitement to hatred" by some press
organs and journalists via social media, who with "hateful
words' reported "reconstructions not corresponding to reality",
claiming he was a supporter of Sarri.
Immobile said he will file a criminal complaint against those
responsible for the "defamation" and physical and verbal
violence..
