Napoli are in talks with Slovakia
coach Francesco Calzona for him to replace Walter Mazzarri on
the bench after the side's poor form continued with a 1-1 home
draw with Genoa at the weekend, sources said on Monday.
Calzona has obtained the all-clear from the Slovakian soccer
federation to him to take over Napoli until the end of the
season and stay on at the helm of the national team too, the
sources said.
Mazzarri, who is in charge of Napoli for the second time, is
preparing the team for Wednesday's Champions League last-16
first leg, but he may be dismissed before the game, the sources
said.
Napoli brought back 62-year-old Mazzarri, who was in charge of
them from 2009 until 2013, after sacking Rudi Garcia in November
following a poor start to the season.
But their form has not improved and the reigning Italian
champions are ninth with 36 points, 27 behind leaders Inter.
Garcia had replaced Luciano Spalletti, who moved on to the helm
of the Italian national team after leading Napoli to their first
Serie A title in 33 years last season.
Calzona had stints as assistant coach at Napoli under Spalletti
and Maurizio Sarri.
