AS Roma have opened talks with
Daniele De Rossi for the former club legend to take over as head
coach after they sacked José Mourinho, sources said on Tuesday.
In the statement announcing Mourinho's dismissal, Roma said an
update on the new coach will be coming "imminently".
The sources said that means the club wants to make a decision by
the end of the day.
Former Italy midfielder De Rossi, 40, played his whole career
for Roma, except for a brief stint at Boca Juniors before he
hung up his boots in January 2020.
The born-and-bred Roman had an unsuccessful stint as coach of
SPAL in Serie B, Italian soccer's second tier, last season.
