Italian swimming great Gregorio
Paltrinieri said Wednesday that he cannot stop think about the
prospect of competing for the 10km open-water gold men in the
Seine at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
"What's the first thing that comes to mind when I think of the
Paris Olympics? The Seine, because it's something that's a bit
new," Paltrinieri told ANSA at a meeting with the press
organized by the Sebago shop in Rome.
"They say they will do the 10km there.
"I swam in the Seine once, and it was an experience: the river
was quite dirty, but calm and the water was not too cold.
"There are different difficulties in a river compared to a
swimming pool and the sea, because the currents change between
the center and the sides and, being a circuit, you have to know
how to exploit them on the outward and return journey.
"It is a cool route. I can't wait".
Paltrinieri's many world titles include the 10km open-water gold
medal he won in 2022.
Among many other honours, he won the gold in the 1,500m
freestyle at the 2016 Rio Olympics.
