Disgraced ex paparazzo to the stars
Fabrizio Corona has been placed under investigation for
suspected defamation by Milan prosecutors on the basis of libel
suits filed by As Roma striker Stephan El Shaarawy and Lazio
defender Nicolò Casale after the former celebrity photographer
accused them of being among several footballers to have bet
illegally on soccer matches.
Italy winger El Shaarawy and Casale both strongly deny the
allegations, made on satirical TV show Striscia La Notizia.
Juventus and Italy midfielder Nicolò Fagioli has plea bargained
a seven month ban in the scandal while Newcastle United and
Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali is expected to plea bargain a
slightly longer sentence.
Aston Villa and Italy midfielder Niccolò Zaniolo has also been
implicated, but is not suing.
