Aston Villa and Italy forward Niccolò
Zaniolo reportedly told investigators probing alleged illegal
football betting that he had accessed a platform, which he did
not know was illegal, but ony played blackjack on it and not
placed bets on matches which is illegal for soccer players,
according to sources close to the former Roma star who has
returned to England from Italy's pre-Euro 2024 qualifier
training camp said Friday.
Both Zaniolo and another player implicated by former star
photographer Fabrizio Corona, Newcastle United's former Milan
forward Sandro Tonali, have been sent home from the camp which
is preparing Italy's qualifiers against Malta in Milan Saturday
and against England at Wembley Tuesday.
The sources close to the player said he was "moderately serene"
and had a clear conscience.
