After the disappointment of the recent
European championships, where Italy came fourth to Netherlands,
Serbia and champs Turkey, star volleyball player Paolo Egonis
has agreed with the Azzurri management that she won't take part
in upcoming pre-Olympic matches in order to rest.
Egonu, 24, a Nigerian-Italian from Cittadella near Padua in
northeastern Italy, "while reaffirming her attachment to the
Azzurri jersey, has agreed with the coach and president Manfredi
not to participate in the pre-Olympic tournament in order to
take a rest," said the federation.
Coach Davide Mazzanti is set to name his squad without Egonu in
it.
