The Italian Footballers Association
(AIC) on Wednesday called on Juventus to bring back Italy
skipper Leonardo Bonucci into the squad saying the Turin giants
were "trampling on his dignity" and he was suffering "grave
professional damage" since the 36-year-old Viterbo born Euro
2020 winner recently fell out with coach Massimiliano Allegri.
"The situation Leonardo Bonucci is going through is paradoxical:
he is objectively out of the squad, he is subjected to
illegitimate conduct forbidden by the collective agreement, his
dignity is trampled on. Juve must reinstate him immediately, he
is suffering serious professional damage", said AIC President
Umberto Calcagno,in a long interview with ANSA.
He said AIC were "fully behind the national team captain, to
whom this affair is precluding important opportunities,
including the Azzurri jersey".
After the shock resignation of manager Roberto Mancini and with
Napoli title winner Luciano Spalletti set to take over, Italy
are gearing up for Euro 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia
and Ukraine early next month.
They are third in their group having lost to leaders England,
their beaten Euro 2020 finalist.
