Italy coach Daniele Bennati has named
his squad for the cycling world championships in Glasgow, with
33-year-old sprinter and classics specialist Matteo Trentin
named as captain for Sunday's men's road race.
The other members of the road-race team are Andrea Bagioli,
Filippo Baroncini, Alberto Bettiol, Daniel Oss, Andrea
Pasqualon, Lorenzo Rota, Kristian Sbaragli and Simone Velasco.
Filippo Ganna, on the other hand, will seek to win the
time-trial world title for the third time on Friday.
The 27-year-old, who is also a track cycling Olympic gold
medallist and multiple world champion, won the event in 2020 and
2021.
"We are not starting out as favourites but anything can happen
in a one-day race," said Bennati.
"Italy has a great tradition at the world championships.
The goal is to win".
