Salernitana boosted their drive to
pull off a remarkable escape from relegation when they beat
Venezia 2-1 on Thursday in a game they had in hand to climb out
of the Serie A drop zone for the first time this season.
Federico Bonazzoli and Simone Verdi were on target to enable
them to move to fourth-bottom with 29 points with three games to
go.
Salernitana spent most of the season at the bottom of the table
and looked doomed but they have enjoyed a huge improvement in
form since Davide Nicola replaced Stefano Colantuono as their
coach in February.
They face Cagliari, who this week sacked coach Walter Mazzarri
and have dropped into the relegation zone with 28 points, in
Salerno on Sunday.
