Napoli striker Lorenzo Insigne
made it into coach Antonio Conte's preliminary 30-man squad for
Euro 2016 on Monday but Genoa forward Leonardo Pavoletti was
excluded.
Midfielders Thiago Motta and Riccardo Montolivo are in
although their conditions need to be evaluated due to fitness
problems.
Defenders Francesco Acerbi and Lorenzo De Silvestri and
midfielder Roberto Soriano failed to make the cut after taking
part in a national-team training camp last week.
Genoa defender Armando Izzo is out too but his exclusion
was planned even before he was involved in a probe into alleged
match-fixing by the Camorra mafia syndicate in Campania.
The national team will gather for its pre-Euro 2016
training camp on Tuesday.
The Azzurri face Scotland in a friendly in Malta on
Sunday.
Conte will trim down his squad to the final 23 in a
week's time.
His men will have their final pre-tournament friendly
against Finland in Verona on June 6 before taking off for their
Euro 2016 base at Montpellier two days later.
Italy play Belgium, Ireland and Sweden in the group stage
of the Euros in France.
