Premier Giorgia Meloni on Saturday
marked the 46th anniversary of the Red Brigades (BR) street
ambush in Rome's Via Fani in which Christian Democrat leader
Aldo Moro was kidnapped and his five police escorts murdered.
The BR abducted Moro on March 16, 1978 and killed him 54 days
later.
Meloni remembered "Oreste Leonardi, Domenico Ricci, Giulio
Rivera, Francesco Zizzi, Raffaele Iozzino, the five agents
barbarously murdered by the Red Brigades on 16 March 1978 during
the cowardly kidnapping of Aldo Moro, who was also found
lifeless on 9 May of the same year."
She said "To them and to all the victims of that dramatic period
in our history, goes our moving remembrance and deep gratitude.
"It is up to us," she concluded, "to remember and honour their
sacrifice, so that those dark years never return".
