Italy is speaking for farmers at the
EU level in their battle against unfair competition from
producers from outside the bloc who do not have to abide by the
same standards, Premier Giorgia Meloni said on Monday.
In a video-message to the assembly of farmers' association
Confagricoltura in Brussels, Meloni said the battle "against the
unfair competition of products from third countries that do not
respect the same health, environmental and social rules that our
farmers and fishermen are bound to respect" is "crucial"
"For this reason, Italy will be the spokesperson for the
farmers' requests, and it will ask the European Commission to
negotiate agreements with non-EU countries with greater
incisiveness and determination, and to establish stricter rules
and precise standards of reciprocity too".
