Some 2,000 Ukrainian civilians have
died in the war launched by Russia on its neighbour and it is
time to stop the bloodshed, Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said
Wednesday.
He said over 2,000 civilians had been killed since the start of
the attack and "we must stop this bloodshed".
Di Maio said Italy backed Pope Francis's efforts in this
direction.
"They open up an important glimmer of hope for restoring peace,"
said the minister.
"We are encouraging them and we are also working together to
build humanitarian corridors," Di Maio said, adding that he had
spoken of this earlier Wednesday with Vatican Secretary for
Relations with States Monsignor Paul Richard Gallagher.
