The 5-Star Movement (M5S) on Tuesday
presented a proposal that would end the ability of politicians
to decide who takes up key posts in the health sector.
Health Minister Giulia Grillo, a M5S member, said the move
would help to combat corruption.
"It is necessary to shred the link between health and
political nominations," said Grillo, who presented the proposal
with M5S leader and Deputy Premier Luigi Di Maio at the Senate.
The proposal has been presented as an amendment to the
'Calabria' decree on public-sector recruitment and it is set to
be voted on by the Lower House's social affairs committee later
on Tuesday.
This system would feature the use of merit-based ranking
systems for senior health appointments.
