The Italian ambassador to Brazil, Alessandro Cortese, has completed a mission to the state of Paraíba, in Brazil's northeast, meeting in the capital João Pessoa with Governor João Azevêdo, who received him at his official residence.
The objective of the meeting, the Italian Embassy in Brazil announced on its official X account, was "to discuss development opportunities in the sectors of tourism, agricultural cooperation and scientific-technological partnerships".
"We are the most competitive state, with the greatest security in the north and the best infrastructure in the region. In addition, we have a AAA rating from S&P Global Ratings and our GDP is growing above Brazil's average,' said Azevêdo.
Cortese emphasised that 'João Pessoa is a city that is growing rapidly, with obvious potential in tourism', pointing out that 'we have 1,500 Italian citizens living here, as well as descendants'.
The ambassador then visited the University of Paraíba, discussing "the strengthening of academic cooperation with Italian universities" and was "warmly welcomed in the Legislative Assembly by its president, Adriano Galdino, with whom he discussed parliamentary diplomacy, cooperation opportunities and the strengthening of bilateral relations".
Finally, Cortese thanked the archbishop of Paraiba, Dom Pedreira da Cruz, and Marcus Alves, the director of the João Pessoa Cultural Foundation, "for the magnificent concert 'A Cello for Peace', sponsored by Tim Brasil in the splendid São Francisco Monastery and Cultural Centre", where he met the Italian community.
