The Italian Ambassador to Athens, Paolo Cuculi, together with the Greek Deputy Minister of Culture, Iason Fotilas, inaugurated the 21st edition of the Thessaloniki International Book Fair, the main publishing fair in Greece, where Italy is for the first time guest country of honour. The ceremony was attended, among others, by the president of the Italian Publishers' Association, Innocenzo Cipolletta, and representatives of local authorities and the Greek and European publishing world.
Italy is present in Thessaloniki with over 50 speakers, 16 publishers and 3 exhibitions, a promotional pavilion set up by ICE, and a cultural programme on the theme 'Orizzonti Vicini' (Neighbouring Horizons), recalling the cultural ties that unite the two Mediterranean countries.
For Ambassador Cuculi, "the Thessaloniki Book Fair constitutes an exceptional occasion to celebrate Italy and its publishing world, with an extraordinary participation of writers and publishing houses, testifying to the strong mutual interest that unites our country with Greece and the great influence that Italian culture exerts in the world.
The participation of Italian authors in the programme includes Beatrice Bandiera, Marta Barone, Roberto Camurri, Vinicio Capossela, Silvia Ferrara, Andrea Franzoso, Luigi Guarnieri, Antonio Manzini, Andrea Marcolongo, Melania Mazzucco, Matteo Nucci, Aurelio Picca, Marco Steiner, Matteo Strukul and Stefano Sturloni, and the Italian publishing houses present in Thessaloniki are Acoma Book, Agenzia Alferj, Besa Muci, Camelozampa, Claudio Grenzi Editore, Erickson, Feltrinelli/Crocetti, Garzanti, Giulio Einaudi Editore, Giunti Editore, Il Castoro, Ischirè, IT Publishing, Kurumuny, Les Flaneurs Edizioni, Mondadori Libri, Reggio Children, Sfera Edizioni, Tomolo EdiGio' Edizioni.
