Italy participated in the third Ministerial Conference Almaty Process, intergovernmental consultative mechanism for refugee protection and international migration. The Embassy of Italy in Baku congratulated Arzerbaigian for its leadership of the Almaty Process over the past two years and wished all the best to Kazakhstan as it assumes the chairmanship of the organisation. The Almaty Process, was established in 2013 and is a regional consultative mechanism on refugee protection and international migration to, from and within Central Asia. The Almaty Process aims to address the challenges posed by complex migration dynamics, facilitates dialogue and continuous exchange of information on migration and refugee protection issues in Central Asia and the region as a whole, provides for technical expert meetings, senior officials meetings, ministerial conferences and regional thematic discussions. Technical and coordination support is provided by the International Organisation for Migration - United Nations Migration Agency (IOM) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
