(ANSAmed) - TUNISI, 24 APR - (ANSAmed) - TUNISIS, 24 APRIL - In his meeting with the European Union Ambassador to Tunisia, Giuseppe Perrone, the President of the Assembly of the Representatives of the People (ARP), Brahim Bouderbala, underlined the solid cooperation relations between Tunisia and the EU and their constant development at various levels, expressing the shared will to further promote them, particularly in the economic, commercial, cultural and academic fields.
Bouderbala highlighted in the colloquium the role of inter-parliamentary relations and their effective contribution to strengthening Tunisian-European cooperation at bilateral and multilateral levels, stressing in this regard the need for the Assembly to set up a parliamentary cooperation group with EU Member States in order to achieve the set objectives and realise the role played by parliamentary diplomacy, a note from the Tunisian Parliament reads.
Perrone, for his part, expressed satisfaction with the pace of cooperation between Tunisia and the EU, based on partnership and mutual respect, stressing the various efforts and initiatives aimed at strengthening it through constant communication between officials, institutions and organisations, both bilaterally and multilaterally. The EU ambassador also stressed the importance of the role of parliamentarians in strengthening Tunisian-European cooperation, welcoming, in this regard, the establishment of the Parliamentary Cooperation Group with EU Member States. He also announced that Italian MEPs Giorgio Gori and Ruggero Razza would be visiting Tunisia from 28 to 30 April, hoping that this would be the appropriate framework for deepening dialogue and discussing ways to strengthen cooperation between Tunisian and European parliamentarians.
The ambassador stressed, in this regard, that cooperation between the two shores of the Mediterranean is not limited to migration issues, but goes further, towards a comprehensive partnership that serves the interests of both sides. Brahim Bouderbala welcomed the forthcoming visit of the European Parliament delegation to Tunisia, expressing the hope that it would open up new horizons to the existing cooperation between the two sides and provide a framework for discussing various issues of mutual interest, in particular those relating to cooperation, security and stability in the Mediterranean region.
