The Estonian Ministry of Culture will submit a bill to Parliament for a vote to amend the Multimedia Services Act and regulate the ban on the retransmission of Russian and Belarusian channels of a clearly propagandistic character. This was announced by Estonian state television, Err.
Restrictions on the retransmission of Russian propaganda programmes had already been introduced after the start of Russia's large-scale invasion of Ukraine, but they remained partial and temporary in nature.
Instead, the new bill intends to provide a solution to the problem by definitively regulating the matter.
As of 2022, the Estonian government has also introduced other restrictions on pro-Russian propaganda portals and press without, however, introducing new regulations for the country's entire information system.
