The extraordinary emotion aroused by the jazz interpretation of the Ukrainian national anthem opened the concert in Kiev of the famous trumpeter Paolo Fresu, accompanied by an ensemble of four exceptional musicians, all Italian.
The event, organised by the Italian Embassy and the Italian Cultural Institute in Ukraine, represented a moment of very high cultural and symbolic value, testifying to the extraordinary quality of relations between the two countries. The Ukrainian Minister of Culture, Mykola Tochytskyi, also stressed this at the opening, speaking together with an exceptionally large delegation of members of the government, the presidential administration, the political world, as well as senior representatives of business, culture and civil society.
"Especially in Ukraine, culture is at this stage defending its identity values. Jazz, the very emblem of freedom, creativity and resilience, represents tonight an ideal message of the Ukrainian people's desire for resistance and renewal,' said Ambassador Formosa, speaking at the opening of a concert that was able to instil deep emotions in the audience and reinforce the fundamental role of culture as a bridge between Italy and Ukraine.
The previous day, Paolo Fresu and his ensemble had held a masterclass at the Kiev Conservatory, offering a moment of very high educational and human value. It was a fundamental and much appreciated opportunity for contact with the School's young musicians, who were literally enraptured and amazed by the opportunity for learning and positive musical contamination offered by some of the greatest interpreters of contemporary Italian jazz.
