Today marked the end of the Lombardy Region's institutional mission to Santiago de Chile, a 'strategic stage' in a process of internationalisation in Latin America that will subsequently see the delegation led by President Attilio Fontana and International Relations Undersecretary Raffaele Cattaneo also visit Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Sao Paulo, Brazil. This was reported in a note specifying that the mission held meetings with institutional, entrepreneurial and academic representatives with the aim of strengthening collaboration between Lombardy and Chile in key sectors such as economics, technology and research.
These included those with the Chilean Minister of the Economy, Nicolás Grau, the governor of the Santiago Metropolitan Region, and the mayors of Santiago and Providencia, during which strategic issues related to trade, investment, sustainability, and infrastructural development were addressed.
On the business front, the representatives of the Italian associations visited the Corfo Incubator (Corporación de fomento), delving into the opportunities offered to start-ups and the Chilean innovation ecosystem.
At the same time, representatives of the Lombardy academic world took part in a networking meeting with over 40 Chilean universities, organised by the Italian Cultural Institute of Santiago, aimed at strengthening cooperation in the fields of education, science and international exchange projects.
At the auditorium of Enel Chile, the round table 'Chile-Italy: scenarios for economic collaboration' was also held, which saw the participation of representatives from the Chilean Ministry of Public Works and Ministry of Energy, InvestChile, the Chilean Air Force (Fach) and the main industrial associations in the energy, infrastructure and advanced technology sectors.
To close the mission, the Delegation took part in a reception hosted at the Residence of the Italian Ambassador in Chile, Valeria Biagiotti, during which the exhibition 'From the Alps to the Andes. History of the great emigration from Lake Como to South America'. On the sidelines of the event, President Fontana also had an exchange with the Minister of Finance, Mario Marcel.
The mission, the note concludes, confirmed the strong interest of the Lombardy economic and university system in Chile, thanks to its strong orientation towards innovation and sustainability. Sectors such as renewable energy, aerospace, infrastructure and Industry 4.0 offer concrete opportunities for Lombardy's companies, which are already global players.
As stressed by the Italian ambassador in Santiago, Valeria Biagiotti, 'Italy and Chile share a deep affinity of values and a common orientation towards innovation and growth. Sistema Italia in Chile continues to work constantly so that companies, universities, and all Italian realities can find fertile ground to grow in this country, thus contributing to the construction of a shared and sustainable future'.
