On 14 March, the Deputy Head of Mission of the Italian Embassy in Sofia, Edoardo di Paolo, met Brigadier General Yuri Grossi, Commander of the Italian Army's 'Pinerolo' Brigade, which is in charge of the 82nd Infantry Regiment, currently deployed at the NATO Multinational Battlegroup Bulgaria in Novo Selo, where Italy holds the Command as 'Framework Nation'.
The meeting," the embassy reported in a note, "provided an opportunity to take stock of developments in the regional security framework and the training and deterrence activities carried out by the Battlegroup contingent in Novo Selo within the framework of Italy's constant commitment to protecting the security of the Atlantic Alliance's eastern flank.
Established in 1821, the Pinerolo Brigade took part in the three Wars of Independence and both World Wars. Disbanded in 1943 and reconstituted in 1952, the Brigade has a multiarmed configuration, is led by a Brigadier General and is staffed by Volunteers, in Ferma and on Permanent Service. It is made up of the 13th Commando Division, two infantry regiments (9th and 82nd), a bersaglieri regiment (7th), a cavalry regiment ('Lodi' 15th), an artillery regiment (21st), a combat engineer regiment (11th) and a logistics regiment.
