In Ecuador, the celebrations organised by the Italian Embassy in Quito, with the support of the ICE Agency (Bogotá Office), the Italian Chamber of Commerce of Ecuador (CCIE) and the Ecuatorian-Italian Bi-National Chamber (CBEI), for the 2025 edition of Italian Design Day (IDD) entitled 'Inequalities. Design for a better life'.
Thanks to an innovative formula aimed at valorising design not only as a distinctive element of the 'Italian brand' but also as a tool at the service of new models for local communities and the fruitful involvement of Italian professionals abroad, the programme included no less than four academic conferences at some of the country's most prestigious universities: Universidad UTE, UIDE (Universidad Internacional del Ecuador), FLACSO (Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales) and PUCE (Pontificia Universidad Católica del Ecuador). The keynote speaker was independent designer Francesco Faccin, trained in Italy in Enzo Mari's studio, who boasts numerous successful collaborations also at an international level, particularly in
Developing countries.
Designated by ADI, Farnesina and the Ministry of Culture as the official testimonial for the ninth edition of the event in Ecuador, Faccin engaged the Ecuadorian audience, together with Italian architect Elisa Giusti, highlighting the role of design in reducing the impact of inequalities on the well-being of individuals in their daily lives. Also essential to the event was the contribution of several Ecuadorian design and architecture studios who illustrated their expertise and respective needs. Following the round table held with the world of Ecuadorian craftsmanship and in a working meeting with the College of Architects of the Province of Pichincha, joint projects between Italy and Ecuador on urban regeneration and transformation and accessibility to facilities and services are in fact foreseen.
According to Ambassador Giovanni Davoli, 'the furniture and design sector occupies a central space in the promotional strategy to support the Italian production system in Ecuador, also considering the importance of enhancing our major events such as the Universal Exhibition of the Milan Triennale, the Salone del Mobile and the Venice Biennale. Ecuador is committed to reducing inequality and protecting biodiversity: in this sense, quality Italian design and our companies can make a great contribution'.
