Mission of the Consul General of Italy in Mumbai, Walter Ferrara, to Nagpur, the second largest city in the State of Maharashtra. During the visit - carried out at the invitation of the State Government - new economic and university cooperation activities were envisaged, with the launch of joint research programmes and urban development projects.
The Consul General said, 'The mission offered an important opportunity to lay the foundations for fruitful collaborations between the Italian and Indian administrations and universities, also with a view to concretely implementing the bilateral strategic partnership.
It was in this perspective that meetings were held with Prashant Bokare, Rector of the Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, one of the most prestigious universities in the State; with the Nagpur Municipal Commissioner, Abhijeet Chaudhari; with the Chief of Police, Ravinder Kumar Singal; and with the 'Principal Secretary' Vipin Itanka, at the Raj Bhavan, the residence of the Governor of Maharashtra.
In addition to being the geographical centre of India and an important logistic hub, Nagpur is known as 'the city of oranges' for the relevance of citrus fruits in the city's export market. Consul Ferrara also visited the Icar - Central Citrus Research Institute - a centre for the development of technologies to improve the productivity and profitability of Indian citrus growers, noting also on this occasion how 'Nagpur's growing expansion in the industrial, academic and technological sectors offers ample opportunities for enhanced cooperation between Italy and India.
