Umberto Desideri, a lecturer from the Department of Energy, Systems, Land and Construction Engineering (Destec) at the University of Pisa and an expert in renewable energy, recently visited Senegal, the Italian Embassy in Dakar announced in a statement. On this occasion, Desideri held a series of seminars aimed at lecturers, researchers and students from the Ecole Supérieure Polytechnique (ESP) and the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar, designed to deepen their understanding of the issues of energy production from renewable sources and the role of hydrogen in the decarbonisation of the energy system.
The visit was an opportunity to explore possible collaborations in joint research projects and the strengthening of exchange initiatives between students and teachers. The main objective is to foster structured scientific cooperation that can contribute to the sustainable development of the energy sector in both countries.
Particularly significant,' the communiqué continues, 'was the visit to the Esp business incubator, a dynamic reality that supports start-ups and innovative projects, and which made it possible to see the importance of building bridges between academic research and the world of production in order to foster youthful entrepreneurship and accelerate the country's economic development.
Desideri met with representatives of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), with whom he discussed possible contributions to cooperation projects in the energy sector. Meeting the lecturer, the Italian Ambassador to Dakar Caterina Bertolini recalled how the visit and the events that have just concluded represent an important opportunity to strengthen academic collaboration between the institutions involved and promote research and innovation in the areas of energy transition and sustainable growth, which the embassy is promoting with the intervention and contribution of the scientific attaché, Eugenio Cavallo.
