As part of the Italian Design Day in the World (IDD), the second edition of the fashion and tailoring workshop 'Travelling in the Fashion World' was held in Baghdad. The workshop, organised by the Italian Embassy in collaboration with ICE and Makers of Baghdad, was held by Fashion Academy - IUAD professor Samanthakhan Tihsler, an entrepreneur and fashion designer, who is also co-founder of a therapeutic tailoring shop for women victims of violence (Molce Atelier).
Students and teachers from the capital's Institute of Applied Arts, together with young tailors and designers from the city of Baghdad, will learn techniques and technologies of contemporary Italian fashion by creating an unprecedented upcycle garment at the end of the course.
Consistent with the IDD2025 theme "Inequalities. Design for a better life', the course intends to explore the role of fashion and design as a tool at the service of a new model of cosmopolitan, inclusive and sustainable community. Between craftsmanship and digital innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship, Made in Italy is thus enhanced by the encounter with Iraqi tradition, in a dialogue between cultures that overcomes all inequalities.
