The Italian Ambassador to Poland, Luca Franchetti Pardo, inaugurated Italian Design Day 2025 in Warsaw, celebrated between 12 and 13 February with various events dedicated to the role of ceramics in improving people's everyday lives.
The initiative was co-organised by the Italian Embassy, the Ice Office in Warsaw and the Italian Cultural Institutes in Warsaw and Krakow, with the involvement of Confindustria Ceramica. In his opening speech, Franchetti Pardo recalled that the millenary culture of ceramics is intimately linked to the diversity of the territories, so much so that one could imagine tourist itineraries through Italy dedicated to it. He then pointed out that Italian ceramics, in addition to its industrial and artistic dimension, is distinguished by its eco-sustainability, low environmental impact and a strong component of highly specialised human capital.
Warsaw and Krakow hosted in-depth days on Italian ceramics, with the screening of the documentary 'Ceramics of Italy'. A journey into sustainability, presented by director Esmeralda Calabria and Confindustria Ceramica Director General Armando Cafiero. This was followed by a seminar by architect Andrea Maffei, Ambassador of Italian Design in Poland 2025, offering a reflection on the link between aesthetics, functionality and sustainability in design. In Warsaw, the day ended with the launch of the exhibition 'Mater ceramica: materia viva e attuale', in the presence of the director of the International Museum of Ceramics in Faenza, Claudia Casali. The events offered an important opportunity to present Italian excellence, from Faenza to Sassuolo, to a qualified audience of businesspeople, designers, researchers and artists. Italian ceramics was the protagonist of a debate that testified to the central role of design, innovation and sustainability in giving life to the Made in Italy philosophy, which combines beauty, functionality and inclusion.
