The Italian Cultural Institute in Beijing, in cooperation with the Italian Embassy in China, organised an event on the occasion of International Women in Science Day to celebrate their contribution to the scientific community and raise awareness of the importance of greater inclusion in the field.
After the screening of the film 'Margherita of the Stars' in homage to astrophysicist Margherita Hack, a Unesco research study was analysed, according to which female figures are still underrepresented in scientific texts and images. This was followed by a debate on the challenges and perspectives of women in science today, with a focus on cultural barriers and opportunities for concrete change in the Stem field. "Women scientists must be seen, listened to, and recognised as role models for future generations," emphasised Ginevra Oliva, First Embassy Counsellor, who reiterated Italy's commitment to promoting gender equality and inclusion in the field of research and innovation. A commitment that is also reflected in the scientific and technological collaboration between Italy and China consolidated through the institutional cooperation framework between the two countries.
