The universe of Gianni Versace is about to conquer Malaga. An exhibition dedicated to the visionary and revolutionary designer, whose unique style has left an indelible mark on the world of fashion, has just opened in the Andalusian city. The exhibition, entitled 'Gianni Versace Retrospective', is hosted by the Cultural Centre of the Unicaja Foundation, where it will remain open until next 30 June. The project was sponsored by the Italian Embassy in Spain and is curated by Karl Von der Ahé.
The exhibition is conceived as a journey through the life of Gianni Versace, to tell the story of the designer's creative genius through more than 500 original pieces, including creations, accessories, unpublished photographs, fabrics, sketches, prototypes and prints, starting from his childhood spent in Southern Italy and ending with the years spent in Milan, New York and Miami. "His fashion was much more than a style. It was a mixture of different cultures and inspirations: from Sicilian Baroque to punk and rock trends, from classical culture to references to Greek mythology and Andy Warhol's pop-art,' Von der Ahé had said during a presentation of the project in Madrid. Present on that occasion were Italian ambassador Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi, according to whom the designer from Reggio Calabria 'still represents a globally recognised Made in Italy excellence', and cultural councillor Teodora Danisi. The latter also attended the opening of the exhibition in Malaga in the company of local authorities.
