The Museum of Fine Arts of Alicante revives its historical link with Italian art with the exhibition 'Milan, Showcase of Modernity', curated by Nicoletta Colombo, Danka Giacon, Serena Redaelli and in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Madrid, the Consulate General of Italy in Barcelona, the Italian Cultural Institute of Barcelona, Generalitat Valenciana, Diputación de Alicante.
Inspired by the relationship that 19th-century artists from the stable collection of the MUBAG (Museo de Bellas Artes Gravina) established with Italy, where they travelled, receiving scholarships from the Provincial Council, to enrich their education, the exhibition (open until 4 May) offers a journey through the history of art in Italy, from the early 20th century to the 1940s, through 162 works from over 60 lenders and Italian institutions. A total of 41 artists are thus represented, reflecting the cultural effervescence of Lombardy in the first decades of the last century.
The exhibition presents a corpus of masterpieces of sensitive historical-artistic content by renowned Italian artists such as Giacomo Balla, Umberto Boccioni, Carlo Carrà, Giorgio de Chirico, Filippo De Pisis, Fortunato Depero, Achille Funi, Alberto Savinio, Mario Sironi, Mario Tozzi, Renato Guttuso and others.
The exhibition is enriched by rare period documents accompanying the various exhibition sections, such as posters, photographs, clothing, fabric designs, films and magazines, enabling the visitor to immerse himself in the spirit of the Italy of the time and to grasp the various aspects of Italian artistic creativity of that crucial period.
