2025 promises to be a year full of cultural events and initiatives for the Italo-Ecuadorian community in Quito and other major cities in the Andean country. The Italian Embassy has a calendar of unmissable events as part of the celebrations for the 125th anniversary of the start
of diplomatic relations between Italy and Ecuador.
It began last Friday, 31 January, in the beautiful hall of the Casa de la Musica, a prestigious philharmonic foundation resulting from the merger between the old Sociedad Filarmónica de Quito and the Fundación Casa de la Música Hans y Gi Neustaetter, where the best Ecuadorian and international musicians on tour in South America perform live.
The Concert 'Fantasia Italiana' staged by the National Symphony Orchestra of Ecuador (OSNE) conducted by Maestro Yuri Sobolev featured the participation of musician Gianfranco Bortolato, a distinguished member of the Orchestra of the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome, considered one of the
best oboists on the Italian scene. The programme included pieces from the classical repertoire: the Concerto for Oboe, TRV 292 and the Symphonic Fantasy 'Desde Italia' by Richard Strauss.
The audience, which came in large numbers, applauded from the beginning to the end of the performance, demonstrating the great interest in Ecuador for Italian culture and artistic tradition.
Every year, the Embassy also promotes paths of musical growth for the younger Ecuadorian generations, who look to our country as a leading destination to train in facilities of excellence.
Thanks to numerous masterclasses by Italian artists, the aim is to unearth young Ecuadorian talents who can strengthen the ties between Italy and Ecuador, favouring mobility and professional and
training for the benefit of the creative industries.
