The Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Riccardo Guariglia, on the instructions of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Antonio Tajani, travelled to Brasilia on 27 January to chair, together with his Brazilian counterpart, Ambassador Maria Laura da Rocha, the VI session of the Political Consultation Mechanism.
During the meeting, the commitment to strengthening cooperation between Italy and Brazil was reaffirmed, not only in the political-diplomatic sphere but also in the economic-commercial, cultural, scientific and technological sectors, as well as in the fight against transnational crime and gender violence.
During the talks, Secretary General Guariglia handed his counterpart a first draft of the Italy-Brazil Strategic Action Plan 2025-2030.
Italy and Brazil are international players with a global profile who, together, can make an important contribution to the international community, as demonstrated by the results of the Italian G7 and Brazilian G20 Presidencies in 2024.
Ambassador Guariglia and Ambassador da Rocha emphasised the importance of collaboration in multilateral fora to address global challenges, such as the reform of international governance or regional crises such as the situation in Venezuela, the war in Ukraine and the crisis in the Middle East.
Among other important topics, strategies to increase bilateral trade and investment were discussed.
