The Juárez theatre in the city of Guanajuato, capital of the Mexican state of the same name, was the setting for the 'Science and Technology Meeting', organised by the local government, through the Institute of Innovation, Science and Entrepreneurship for Competitiveness (Innovación), in collaboration with the National Research Council (CNR) and the Italian Embassy.
The event was held with the aim of showing the developments of an agreement launched in 2021 to promote scientific and technological collaboration between the two countries, which has already led to the funding of three research projects. The winners of the new bilateral 'Conexión Internacional de la Ciencia' calls on the topics of agriculture and intelligent production that will be conducted in the two-year period 2025-2026 were also announced.
The meeting was opened by the Director General of Innovación, Juan Antonio Reus Montaño, who emphasised the importance of the alliance with Italy to promote initiatives of great scientific impact.
The winning projects were a proposal by Pirelli Mexico and the Cnr-Ismn on tyre recycling and a plan by the National Technological Institute of Celaya with the Cnr-Stiima to develop a digital twin to optimise agricultural production.
The programmes will receive joint funding of 4.5 million pesos (around 215,000 euro).
"The meeting was an enriching space for dialogue and exchange in which research projects between the Italian CNR and the innovation ecosystem of the vibrant state of Guanajuato were highlighted. We continue to build bridges for shared scientific and technological development,' said Roberto Marani, scientific attaché of the Italian Embassy in Mexico.
'This alliance promotes frontier science and technological development,' said Juan Antonio Reus Montaño, 'and the great support and contribution that Italy has given us through knowledge has taken Guanajuato to a wider scale in advancing high-impact projects.
