On the occasion of National Space Day 2024, the Italian Embassy in the Netherlands and the Institute of Italian Culture in Amsterdam present an exhibition focusing on Galileo Galilei's intuition to measure time and longitude using his observations of Jupiter's moons. Many of the reproductions of the instruments used by the Italian scientist, from the Museo Galileo Galilei in Florence, will be on display, together with some clocks designed by the equally famous Dutch scientist Christiaan Huygens, and from the Rijksmuseum Boerhaaven in Leiden.
The recent satellite geolocation system named after Galileo Galilei will also be illustrated.
The programme of the inauguration, on 9 December at 6.30 p.m., includes an introductory greeting by the Ambassador to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Giorgio Novello, a talk by Prof. Alessandro De Angelis (University of Padua and Italian Representative at the International Organisations in Paris), astrophysicist and Galileo historian, and a talk by Esa program manager Marco Falcone.
