The Week of the Italian Language in the World, the event dedicated to the promotion of Italian as a language of prestige, now in its 24th edition, will be held from 14 to 20 October under the theme 'Italian and the book: the world between the lines'.
The Italian Embassy in Pristina and the Italian Institute of Culture in Tirana, which is also responsible for Kosovo, are presenting a rich programme of events, with debates and film screenings designed for both adults and young people, which will interpret Italian literature in its many dimensions, reads a statement issued by the Italian Embassy in Pristina.
"At the centre of the events we have devised there is therefore Italian literature conjugated in its multiple dimensions: from cinematographic transposition, to didactics, up to its social and anthropological dimension, with an eye to modern technologies, which can contribute to promoting its knowledge, especially in a country like Kosovo, notoriously the youngest in Europe. Moreover, enhancing the Italian language, with its richness and variety, guides us through the lines of stories and cultures, making each reading a unique and unforgettable journey, capable of stimulating an intercultural dialogue that strengthens the ties between different communities, a theme of particular relevance in the Balkan area,' says Ambassador Antonello De Riu.
The Week opens tonight with the screening of the film "L'amore molesto" directed by the well-known director Mario Martone and based on the novel of the same name by the famous writer Elena Ferrante, to whom the closing event of the SLIM will also be dedicated.
The film 'Pinocchio' by acclaimed director Matteo Garrone will also be screened, based on the homonymous work by Carlo Collodi, which is the most translated work in the Italian language.
While on 16 October, the inauguration of the CELI (Certificato di Conoscenza della Lingua Italiana) exam centre at the UBT University of Pristina will take place.
On 17 October, in the framework of the fruitful cooperation started by the Italian Embassy with the public television network RTK, the documentary "Enzo Ferrari. The Red and the Black'. The broadcast of the documentary will be preceded by a video message from Ambassador Antonello De Riu.
The Week will close on Friday 18 October with an event dedicated to the famous writer Elena Ferrante. A literary and socio-cultural dialogue entitled "Le Donne di Elena Ferrante" (Elena Ferrante's Women) will be held at the Embassy on the afternoon of 18 October, which will focus on the female protagonists of Elena Ferrante's novels.
Throughout the week, the 'Pillole di Libri' social campaign will take place. Short excerpts of Italian, classic and contemporary literary works, which have also been translated into Albanian so as to promote the knowledge of Italian authors, will be posted on the venue's social media every day.
