The Spanish architects Patricia Urquiola and Teresa Sapey, two women internationally recognised for their professional trajectory, indispensable references for the new generations of design and interior architecture, will receive the 'Tempietto di Bramante 2024' Award tomorrow, 10 October, in its first edition, during the reception for the National Holiday of Spain, which will be celebrated at Palazzo Montarìa, in the Spanish monumental complex on the Janiculum Hill.
    The award,' reports the Embassy of Spain in Italy, 'whose name refers to the symbol par excellence of Spain in Rome since the beginning of the 16th century, stems from the commitment and desire to strengthen the bonds of friendship, political, economic, entrepreneurial, academic, scientific, cultural and sporting between the two countries. And to this end, the embassy established the award as an instrument of public diplomacy.
    In its motivation, the jury, chaired by the Ambassador of Spain to Italy, Miguel Fernandez-Palacios, highlighted "the exceptional contribution" of the two award-winners to contemporary design and architecture, "their extraordinary influence in the international sphere", without forgetting that "with their vital and professional trajectory, Patricia Urquiola and Teresa Sapey contribute in a very significant way to strengthening the social, entrepreneurial and emotional ties between the two nations".
    Born in Oviedo, Patricia Urquiola is a world-renowned Spanish architect and designer living in Milan. After studying at the Milan Polytechnic, where she graduated with Achille Castiglioni, she worked with Vico Magistretti and as head of design at Lissoni Associati. In 2001, she opened her own studio in Milan, collaborating with prestigious brands such as Alessi, B&B and Moroso. Among the awards he has received are the title of Design of the Year from Elle Deco in 2003 and Wallpaper in 2005. He also received the Gold Medal of Merit in Fine Arts. His works are exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and his most emblematic design products include the Lowland sofa and the Flower chair.
    Teresa Sapey, born in Cuneo and currently living in Madrid, is a renowned architect and designer. She graduated in Architecture from the Polytechnic of Turin in 1985 and obtained a degree in Fine Arts from the Parson School of Design in Paris. In 1990 she founded her own studio in Madrid. Since 1999, she has also been a member of the RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects, London).Sapey combines her professional career with teaching. In Spain, she was Director of the Final Project of the Degree in Interior Design at the European Institute of Design (IED Madrid); Professor at the Camilo José Cela University; and guest lecturer for the Master's Degree in 'Design and Architecture' at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, among others. His work has been published by magazines such as AD, Wallpaper and Elle Sapey has won several awards, including Wallpaper Young Breakthrough Designer of the Year in 2007 and Women Together, awarded by the United Nations in 2008. In 2009, Marie Claire (Italy) named her "among the 10 women who will change the world". In 2019, she was appointed 'Grande Ufficiale' of the Italian Republic. Her works include the car park of the Hotel Puerta America and the renovation of the Congress Palace in Madrid.
