On 3 October 2024, the death of Gabriele Moreno Locatelli, pacifist and the first Italian civilian victim in Bosnia-Herzegovina, was commemorated in Sarajevo. A member of the volunteer corps 'Blessed are the Peace Builders', he was killed on 3 October 1993 on the Vrbanja bridge in the Bosnian-Herzegovinian capital, while demonstrating with other volunteers for an end to hostilities. His memorial plaque lies next to that of Suada Diliberovic and Olga Sucic, the first two civilian victims of the conflict, killed on that same bridge in April 1992. Once again, the Italian Embassy, represented by Chargé d'Affaires Lorenzo Donatelli, gathered at this spot to commemorate Locatelli's sacrifice, an example of moral rebellion against inter-ethnic violence and hatred. Deputy Mayor Anja Margetic and the Association of Citizens of Italian Origin (Ugip) were present.
