In the 2024 edition of the Italian Regional Cuisine Week, the state of São Paulo will be considered as 'the 21st region' in homage to the 150th anniversary of Italian immigration to Brazil.

This emerged at the presentation of the culinary kermesse, from 21 to 27 October, which brings chefs and specialities from all Italian territories to renowned tricolour restaurants in the Paulist city.
"Many Italian families have made a decisive contribution to the economic, social, cultural and political development of this wonderful country, and in particular of São Paulo, the most Italian city outside Italy," said Consul General Domenico Fornara, at the presentation.
To celebrate this history, the centuries-old Basilicata restaurant will prepare an Italian-Brazilian menu with dishes that unite the traditions of the two countries, such as the classic filet alla parmigiana according to the recipe of Italian immigrants in Brazil, one of the most popular recipes among the inhabitants of São Paulo.
The 'Week' was born in São Paulo in 2012 and served as inspiration for the Italian Cuisine Week, which since 2016 has been organised by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in embassies and consulates around the world.
"But São Paulo remains the only place where regional Italian cuisine is celebrated, with 20 chefs, one from each region of Italy, collaborating with local chefs in renowned restaurants," Fornara pointed out.
According to Gerardo Landulfo, delegate of the Italian Academy of Cuisine, which organises the event together with the Consulate General of Italy in São Paulo, the audience for each edition is usually around 7,000 people, but for this year, expectations are higher.
