Promoting Italian fashion design
schools abroad and improving connections between schools and the
fashion industry are key for future strategies, participants at
a meeting of the national fashion committee's education
commission said Thursday.
The commission is the brainchild of newly appointed
Industry Minister Carlo Calenda and is coordinated by the
Florence Center for Italian Fashion (CFMI), a non-profit set up
in 1954 to promote Italian designers internationally.
"The Florence centre has been tasked with coordinating the
training commission, which includes many design schools,"
explained CFMI President Andrea Cavicchi.
CFMI issues the fair trade and promotion guidelines for
Pitti Immagine (in which it holds an 85% stake), and Ente Moda
Italia (in which it holds a 50% share). The latter is a company
that promotes Italian fashion abroad through international trade
fairs and events.
It also holds a 50% stake in Ente Fiere Maglieria e
Abbigliamento (EFIMA), which oversees women's wear events in
Milan.
The centre has just announced a donation of 70-100,000 euros
for new lighting at Palazzo Pitti.
The lighting was officially presented at an event on Monday
night, the eve of this week's 90th edition of Pitti Uomo, which
runs in Florence through Friday.
